Usage
STEP 1 – PRE-COLOURING: Remember to be colour safe and always do your patch test 48 hours before using this L'Oreal Preference silver hair dye, even if you have already used colouring products before. Please follow the instruction leaflet and read the safety information.
STEP 2 – PREPARATION: Cover your shoulders with a towel and put on the gloves. Open the colouring bottle and pour it entirely into the developer bottle. Close with the applicator tip and shake it to obtain a completely even mixture. Twist off the applicator tip immediately to avoid bursting and damage from the product overflowing.
STEP 3 – APPLY COLOUR: Part your hair into small, even sections and apply the silver grey hair dye. Refer to instructions for development time. Apply conditioner that preserves the silver hair colour and then rinse thoroughly.

Completely Misleading Colour!!!

Completely misleading packaging!!! I was promised a vibrant purple but have now ended up with an unwanted red hue in my hair, as have others. I actually chose this product because the packaging appeared more vibrant and *less* red than others on the shelf. Alas. Now I am confronted with removing the evillest colour to remove - RED ! I either have to go blow a fortune at a salon to get it corrected or risk frying my hair with at home colour strippers. Ridiculous packaging considering this is permanent dye.

Not purple

Nice quality, left me with very shiny hair and nice conditioner but not at all as advertised colour wise.
I used the virtual try on, I compared my hair to the colour chart on the back of the box and have a completely different colour final product. I started with medium brown hair and now have a dark CHERRY RED :(

Not the slightest hint of the colour on the packaging in the slightest, most I got was an ugly brown with an odd reddish tone in the sun, no purple at all. my hair was a virgin medium-light brown and providing the back of the box was accurate it *should* look just fine- something is seriously wrong with this formula. I genuinely fished my box out of the bin to check if someone had swapped the colour from the pack in-store to a brown, but it was indeed magnetic plum.

I just died my hair with this, it is not even remotely purple. It turned my hair black, and before you make any assumptions my hair was light pink before I applied it.

This isn't purple, it has nothing to do with the colour purple because it's an ugly red that I'm now stuck with until I can fix it. The packaging should be changed because it's misleading. I wanted purple and got a sad and ugly red. If I wanted a sad an ugly red colour this would be five stars but I didn't so it's not. I'm fuming. This colour is fugly and whoever marketed it as purple should be fired. Gross.

Great Shine but not vivid

I was really looking forward to trying this colour. Application was simple and easy like any other hair colour product. The smell was great and no overpowering chemical smells. I am a regular hair dyer, left it in allocated time (actually a bit longer for my stubborn greys) Conditioner provided felt very luxurious, however the end result was disappointing as per the box examples I was hoping for a more 'vivid' outcome. If anything it gave the very slightest tinge of purple only visible in sunlight. Covered greys great. In the end I did still like it as it gave more depth to my brown hair instead of a flat boring brown.

Beautiful colour

Due to colouring my hair a reddish pink for the last couple of years, I didn’t expect much of a purple to come through. Honestly, I love the colour it turned out. Deep, which is what I wanted with a pop of purplish red. (That’s what I’d call it anyway) definitely be sticking with this for a while.

Easy to use dye, vibrant colour

I dedicded to test the dye on my daughter's hair and my mum's hair. There was plenty in the bottle to do my daughter's tips and highlights for my mum, with plenty left over. My daughter had brown hair and the colour turned out beautifully. In my mums grey hair the colour was even more vibrant. I will definitely be buying this hair dye to do an all over colour for my daughter, the colour is stunning!! Oh, and the conditioner provided in the box is top quality, smells amazing and leaves your hair so soft! All in all I give this a 10 out of 10. Great, easy product.

I like the L’Oréal Paris box dyes and saw the Vivids High Intensity Gel and had to try it. I love anything purple so I grabbed the magnetic plum. Easy to apply, I used two boxes and the colour turned out gorgeous. A beautiful plum colour that I was receiving compliments about. Good thing about L'Oréal is that I never experience any overwhelming chemical smells from their dyes like some others do. The colour range is fantastic and if mine turned out great I'm expecting the other colours do too. You get the gel, developer and hair mask in the box with easy to follow instructions and gloves. My hair turned out vibrant especially in the sun and soft, subtle and smooth. The colour also lasted a lot longer than expected. I will definitely purchase again.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Lovely colour, and I was pleased it showed up on my dark hair. It looks brighter in the sun but even in natural light still looks gorgeous. It didn't leave my hair feeling dry or "crispy", and maintained my natural hair condition (I have curly hair, and it didn't disrupt my curl pattern). It takes a longgg time to rinse out, so keep in mind to allow yourself extra time for this. It will also bleed for a few washes after dyeing, but this will stop after a few washes. Use a colour-safe shampoo and conditioner, and lukewarm water

Bad dye. DONT BUY

I did this yesterday, its SO bad. Its completely red. everyone knows red doesnt leave. the back of the box is completely false as it says its more purple on black hair. ITS NOT. my hair was virgin, and now i just ruined it for this dumb dye not to work. horrible dye, dont buy unless u want to damage ur hair for no good reason.

My New Permanent Hair Colour

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] After trying the Blue Black shade from the same range and being very impressed with the result, but not happy with the shade which didn't suit my skin tone, I was very eager to try another shade.
I have naturally soft black hair, which is greying. This hair dye range is definitely permanent. Overall, the difference in colour isn't noticeable, until you catch the sunlight, however where there were grey hairs there are now electric purple strands, which I really like.
I have now redyed my hair three times with this shade and plan to keep using this shade for the immediate future.
As a side note: my hair is nearly waist-length and I found one box surprisingly more than sufficient to cover all my hair.
Also, I recommend a hair dye kit (bowl, brush, etc) to aid application.

I bought this hair dye hopeful that it would show up on my dark brown hair as the package claimed it would be a vivid colour and would show up on dark brown hair but it did not. I am very disappointed with the product and do not recommend it.

Loved the colour!

Firstly, The smell was not overpowering with fumes you get in many brands of dye, this had absolulty no smell whatsoever! The colour was delighful, Perfect for someone like myself with darker hair, a nice colour that doesn't stick out. The packaging catches the lingering eye when searching for that one nice colour. It served with a very generous amount so I could cover my whole head, long hair and all & did not leave a nasty stain on my skin like other darker colours can, easy to wipe & clean.

L’Oréal Paris Preference Vivids High Intensity Gel permanent hair colour in magnetic plum was one i was excited to try. Application was easy and i could immediately start to see the magnetic plum colour come through as i was waiting to rinse. The colour is so beautiful and gave me a luminous bold result i could not be happier with. The shine protect conditioner was generous in size enough for a few washes that helped make the colour last longer while keeping my hair soft and shiny.

The L'Oreal Paris Preference Vivids Hair colour in Magnetic Plum came in a box much like any standard 'at home' hair dye and included everything you would need to complete the task. The instructions were easy to follow, so I began applying the colour to my hair. The process was very easy and quick and there was plenty of liquid colour gel to cover my entire head and even some leftover, which I find rare in most cases, so that's a bonus. I let my hair sit for 30 minutes and then washed the colour out, it was again, a really quick and simple process. The colour itself was very mild on me as I have fairly dark brown hair but can be seen as a pretty shine in the sun or bright light. I wouldn't recommend for anyone with darker hair who wants a vibrant colour but definitely great for lighter hair or as a pretty coloured shine,

Didn't come out purple

This particular purple hair colour didn't come out as it shows on the box, I got more of a Mulberry colour on my hair, its not the colour I wanted, I wanted the vibrant purple on the box, so it failed to please, but its not a strong smell which is nice as my eyes don;t sting from the fumes that some hair colours still have these days. Would I recommend this...yes based on the fact that it may turn out as vibrant purple as the box for someone else.

This ruined my daughter’s hair. My daughter wanted purple hair (the vivid range) and we pre lightened to a light brown like the pack suggested (blonde is not advised on the packet, her hair colour is the shade of light brown, as advised). The pack shows a vivid purple from light brown hair but that’s not the case! Her hair has turned a dark brown, black with a shimmer of purple in the light! I am absolutley fuming! Will never buy L’Oréal again.

Got black hair instead

I have almost black asian hair that was already lightened to dark brown. Did not expect this hair colour to turn out as vivid as the picture on the front the box, but the shade guide did show the expected results on dark brown to black hair, which had very visible purple. What I got after an extended development time (40 mins instead of 30) was black hair, with burgundy highlights only visible in direct sunlight. YMMV.
One good thing about this dye is that the contents are generous - one box was enough for my longer than shoulder hair. It also covered by greys well. In terms of drying out hair, it was slightly drying but was mostly fixed up by the included conditioner.
Make sure you allow enough time to rinse out - it took a very long time (more than 10 minutes) and colour was still coming out. Still had colour leeching out after 2 shampoos.

Alright but wouldn't buy it personally

Dying process was easy. Colour mixed well. Hair didn't feel nice after washing the colour out before putting the included conditioner in. Has felt soft ever since. Colour isn't as vibrant as I was expecting, as per the box colour guide, and coverage is not even. Even though the box says permanent and up to 8 weeks, not sure how long the colour will actually last. It looks to have faded a lot in only 4 days and not vibrant anymore. I have been using a coloursafe QV shampoo/conditioner to wash my hair. Dyed hair on Sunday, it's now Thursday, and water still runs with some colour in it which is strange as the dye was fully washed out the very first day.
It's unlikely I'd buy this shade of dye again - however I may try other colours in the same brand as it has worked well. I just think the issues I'm having are due to the colour and not the brand.

NOT PURPLE

I thought I'd found the perfect shade for my Med Brown hair. I followed the instructions but left an extra 10 mins as my hair can be resistant to dye. Once it was all dyed and I had dried my hair I was very disappointed to find it had more of a burgundy colour than the purple on the box. I had no previous colour in my hair, so that would not have been a factor in the result. I'm going to have to dye it another colour now.

Bold, shiny and soft

The colour is really nice I have dark hair so it obviously isn't the exact colour but you can definitely see shades of purple especially in the sun light. After rinsing I used the conditioner it really made my hair silky soft and shiny. I love the colour and the way my hair feels. Will definately use again. Plus when using the smell wasn't as strong as other dyes I have used which was a bonus.

Not happy at all

My hair was a light red and I used this as I fancied a change. It turned my hair black with a very tiny tinge of purple in the light. It took me years to grow black hair dye out so I can experiment with brighter colours and now im straight back to square one. I brought this after reading the reviews but I'm very dissapointed and will definitely not buy again. I bought 2 boxes which cost £14. Waste of money and time.

i bought this hair dye yesterday and dyed my hair tonight. i had recently had blonde highlights put in my hair and didnt like it so i dyed it bright purple using a different brand but it faded so wanted to retouch it up using this one thinking it would be bright purple also but it turned my hair a dark red/brown and not purple. the conditioner left my hair extremely smooth, only plus that came out of it.

Ive received many compliments for my new hair colour though and will probably purchase again in a couple weeks to touch up the roots. The colour on the package wasnt a true indication of new colour on my original colour hair though.

Lovely colour

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have enjoyed using this hair dye. As with other L’Oréal colours it was easy to apply. My hair is naturally dark brown so was not sure what to expect with this colour. I was more than happy with the results. It covered my hair well and blended in my few greys. It also made my hair feel soft and look shiny. I have a nice purple sheen which looks even better in the sunshine. I recommend this product.

More mahogany than purple

Where as the hair colour was great and lots of product to go a long way, the colour is nothing like the package and more of a mahogany than the purple in the picture. I like the colour it ended up but not what I was expecting.

Worth a try, hair smells and feels great.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Love that this is a gel and so easy to apply and didn't make a mess or stain my skin. It smellls lovely and the instructions are easy to follow. It left my hair feeling so soft and shiny. Only 4 stars as I would have liked a more dramatic effect, the result was more subtle. This could just be the colour and texture of my hair. Not had it on long enough to see whether it lasts.

I usually use a different brand to dye my hair and I usually have to use 4 or 5 tubes of the colouring agent due to being a creme dye. But with this 1 it was 1 tube and did my whole hair which is almost waist length.
I did the dye. It came out darker than I expected but I’ve now washed my hair three times since doing my hair and it’s still as vibrant as when I just did it

Nice formula

I really like the formula, and that my hair didn't feel super dried out after using this product.
I found this colour really hard to photograph, as a different lights it seems to be more brown rather than the plum colour.
And only after one wash I've already had the colour fade.
But in saying that, I do have naturally blonde hair which it doesn't recommended.

disappointed, turned my hair even darker

I wanted visibly purple hair. I naturally have dark hair but it was lightened already- box suggested it would be a vibrant purple but it made my hair look black. Super disappointed, I saw mixed reviews and decided to go with this dye but I would not recommend. Only wwould suggest using it if you want dark hair w the tinies hint of purple showing in bright light :(

I really love bright colours, and this was a little more subtle than I thought but still quite bright. It was super easy to use and didn’t drip very much at all. There was a smell but as with all box dye it was par for the course, just make sure you’re definitely in a well ventilated area. I’d be interested to try other colours in this line in the future.
