How To Use
1. After using Colour Protect Shampoo apply on wet hair, focusing on lengths and ends. Leave for one minute then rinse.

Dry and frizzy result from new formula

Same experience as other long time users. This is a totally different product than the original formula. Leaves my curly hair dry and fizzy. I have loved and used this product for over 15 years but will not be purchasing again. So disappointed.

Leaves greasy residue behind

A few months ago I noticed a big difference in how my hair feels after using the Elvive Colour Protect shampoo. It feels like I can’t seem to wash it off my hair and scalp and when I dry it it feels like my roots are coated with a waxy film. This is no matter how long I spend trying to wash it out in the summer and this happens even when I don’t use any conditioner. I haven’t changed anything about the water I use to wash my hair in or anything else about my hair routine. Very strange and disappointing! My hair dresser had to wash my hair 4 times to get my scalp to feel clean when had it cut and blow dried recently.

Left my hair greasy

Really disappointed in this new formula. I have used L'Oreal products and in particular the colour protect conditioner for many many years. On using this new conditioner formula for the first time I left it on for 2 minutes. After drying my hair I found it had left a residue and my hair felt and looked greasy. I had to go back in the shower immediately and rewash my hair and use a different conditioner I had in. Another day I tried again and realised it should be left for just 1 minutes which I did. Sadly it still left my hair looking and feeling flat and greasy and so I will not be using this product again. Please L'Oreal, return to the original formula which was a great product.

Colour shielding conditioner.

I used this in February and didn't realise they had changed the formula .... at first I thought it was one of the other products I use but after a process of elimination I realised it was this conditioner ... it left a thick coating on my hair and it looked so greasy and was really hard to get a brush / comb through it ..... my daughter uses the same and it had the same effect on her hair and now she has changed to another product .... L'Oréal why did you have to change the formula ... surely after all the bad reviews you need to listen to your otherwise loyal customers .... I would never recommend this product to anyone now .... I still use the shampoo and now use the hair mask as a conditioner instead.

Beautifully managed hair with shine and brightness

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I used the shampoo and conditioner after my fun run on sunday and was amazed how this conditioner was so easy to apply to the palm of my hand and then to my hair in the shower it was thick and easy to use without half of it falling down the plug. It felt so nourishing on my hair and easy to comb through with my fingers from root to tip. I then towel dried and used my hair dryer my highlights were so bright it was nice to have this refresh and my hair was really manageable. I combed through my hair and was so pleased with the improved look of my colour and my ends.

What’s changed?

I have used loriel alive colour protect shampoo and conditioner for 22 years. I have extremely sensitive scalp and Elvive has never caused a reaction until now. The fragrance has changed and is fabulous, I love it, the colour of the bottles have changed to a more pinkish red, nice , I like that too but, my head is sore and itchy every day after washing my hair. I am devastated as elvive is literally the only non medicated shampoo that I have ever used that doesn’t cause my scalp to react. What ingredients are in the new formula that was not in the old one?

This retains my colour and keeps my hair soft

This conditioner along with the accompanying shampoo works like magic. Firstly it smells fresh and the texture is lovely and creamy. It cocoons my hair and makes it feel soft and smooth. It perfectly retains the colour and intensity between dye applications. Even in strong sunlight on holiday, my hair wasnt parched or dry and stayed as good as the day it was dyed. Great job L'Oréal 👏

Adds softness - shine

I applied a generous amount of this lovely smelling conditioner and then covered my hair in a plastic cap lined with a fine gauze & left for 15 mins (I have very dry, coarse brittle hair)
I lost none of the colour as I usually do on rising shampoo/conditioner and my hair felt really quite soft and it was much more manageable as I dried and styled it. When it was all done there was quite a noticeable shine which is rare for my hair.

Why have you changed the formula and smell!?!

I have used this product for 10 years! Always complemented for how my hair looks healthy and shiny and smells amazing. Now you've changed the formula! The conditioner leaves your hair feeling heavy, greasy and smells like really strong cheap perfume instead of the fruity scent it use to leave. Why change something that was perfect for so many people. Everyone I know who has used this product for years are all saying the same thing. I was praying that it was just a bad batch but in every shop I've tried to purchase the new formula bottles, it's the same horrible product. The shampoo is now really watery and super thin. Feels like washing your hair in fairly liquid. Please change back to the formula that has kept all your loyal customers happy. I'm now looking for alternatives.

Really cares for coloured hair

This conditioner has been amazing! Only a little is needed for my long, thick hair. It las a lovely, silky texture and smells SO good! I think they are the equivalent of expensive ones at a lower price. This smells amazing and leaves my hair soft and silky. Hair is freshly died but only use it 2 times so can’t comment on lasting 40 washes….i think that’s what the message is in the bottle. For my long hair surely can’t get 40washes if that bottle. All in all super happy and I will recommend.

I’ve recently changed my hair colour to a lighter shade and was afraid that it’d not look as good but after using the shampoo and conditioner the colour looks as vibrant as it did at the beginning even after frequent washes and it’s 3 weeks after! Softer hair and brighter colour for longer

I didn't need too much for my shoulder length hair so the bottle will last a while, the fragrance is lovely and not too strong. I colour my hair every 8-10 weeks or so and this really helps it stay soft and manageable. On rinsing after 2 or 3 minutes my hair felt so much softer and well conditioned. Once dried and straightened it looked smooth and shiny and the colour shines through more.

Will no longer be purchasing

I have been using both the shampoo and conditioner for many many years and loved it. After using a new bottle of it today and not realising it was a new formula, I will no longer be purchasing. The highly perfumed scent that now hits you when you open the bottle was extremely overwhelming and unexpected. My hair once dried looked stringy and greasy. Something I’ve never had happen before. Such a shame. You need to go back to the old formula or you risk losing many customers.

I used the colour protect shampoo and conditioner for years. People would always say how healthy my hair looked and how I had such awesome natural colour. The formula has now changed, and I can't stand this product anymore. It leaves me hair feeling horrible and greasy, along with a rather strong smell.
A few other Loreal shampoo/conditioners have also had their formulas changed recently, and sadly none of which are improved in any way. No idea what L'Oreal were thinking.

New formula not working for me

I have been using your colour protect shampoo and conditioner for over 20 years. For the first time ever I have just purchased another conditioner as my hair has not looked as good lately, the smell of the conditioner is not very nice and the price is not worth it. Also my head is really itchy at times. I really loved the old formula. I thought it was just me but I can now see lots of other people think the same. Shampoo to be changed next unfortunately…

This was the best conditioner ever! Sadly, it has been quietly reformulated and has been ruined. It leaves a coating on your hair that makes it look greasy. No amount of rinsing will remove it. After conditioning and drying, hair is left feeling like straw that is coated. After consistently buying this for over 10 years I am forced to look for an alternative as it is no longer doing what it used to do. It has gone from fab to cheap and nasty.

Moisturises and defines my virgin wavy hair

Having previously used and loved the extraordinary oils range, particularly the conditioners (which used the classic dimethicone), I’ve come back to the L’Oréal Elvive range of conditioners after noticing that they’ve reintroduced dimethicone alongside amodimethicone. I have virgin hair and amodimethicone alone doesn’t provide a uniform seal to prevent tangling in my dry, frizzy and wavy hair. Although I don’t have coloured hair, this colour protect conditioner moisturises and defines my waves beautifully, despite containing isopropyl alcohol (which can be drying). Please consider keeping this exact formula. Different people have different hair needs, and this formula is suitable for people like me who need dimethicone based conditioners. A different version could be formulated for people who prefer less moisture. But please don’t discontinue this formula.

I actually never write reviews… however, had to with this.
I love the product, much better for my hair type and I love the new scent. The scent stays in my hair as if it’s a hair perfume.
Looking at the reviews they are really mixed… I guess it’s all down to personal preference.
For me this is the best product to clean, enhance my colour and give a gorgeous smell throughout the day.
I would recommend to just give it a try.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I started using this conditioner (and matching shampoo) straight after colouring my hair and used for over a month.
Only a small amount is needed to leave hair feeling silky soft! I love the scent of the range too, and others also compliment me on how good my hair smelt. I did notice that my hair colour (a deep red) looked more vibrant for longer and my hair looked healthy and glossy. I will continue to use this range.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Another great product from this premium brand. It has a lovely, smooth texture and very pleasant scent to compliment the matching shampoo. Easy to apply and rinse out, leaves hair soft, scented and tangle-free. Can't yet comment on the longevity of product performance on my highlights, time will tell! Very much like the container, but maybe would be even better with moulded grips to prevent slippage?

Impressed with new formula

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have only used this new version a couple of times but was impressed. I have used the old formula on and off for several years.
The conditioner left my hair silky and glossy. I think the new version is better than the original. I didn’t even need a ‘tamer’ product after this conditioner.
I would recommend using both the shampoo and conditioner in this range together as they complement each other.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] L'Oréal Colour Protect Shampoo lathers well and my hair felt clean after. I used the conditioner too and my hair looked glossy after drying. I had dyed my hair the week before and the shampoo and conditioner seem to colour protect. I’ve only used it a few times so can't really say if it leaves intense colour upto 40 washes. I don't think it's as moisturising as some of their other shampoos.

Makes hair greasy and limp

Used to be great - I've been using for over 2 decades, even although I did not colour my hair. It added shine and volume. Sadly the formulation has changed, and I end up with limp, greasy hair after washing, conditioning and drying. I need to wash my hair much more often now.
I'm going to buy an alternative product after I finish the bottle I have. It was giod for years, but now it is rubbish.
