How does tone on tone formula work ?

A tone-on-tone formula contains two products: a colouring cream and a developer. The same way as traditional hair colour, the two components need to be mixed.

A tone-on-tone hair colour primarily provide to consumers reflects without changing the tone level of their hair. The reflects fade over time without a "root effect". Moreover, it can provide optimal coverage of grey hair up to 70% (depending of the shades), whereas classic oxidative colouring can provide up to 100% coverage.

Tone on tone is not recommended for people who have more than 50 to 70% of grey hair or for people who want a lighter colour than they currently have.

What is the difference compared to a traditional hair colour ?

Compared to a traditional hair colour, meaning a permanent hair colour, the tone-on-tone hair colour does not change the tone level of hair, meaning it is not for hair transformation. The processing time is shorter (20min) and Casting Crème Gloss has been formulated with a low concentration of alkaline agents. This low concentration of MEA reduce the opening of the cuticles to :

-Allow soft penetration of dyes inside the hair resulting in a lower hair sensitizing colouration process compared to permanent hair colour.

- Reduce the lift and ensure a minimum rootline effect.

How long tone on tone lasts? Does it change between hair types?

Our Casting Crème Gloss lasts up to 32 shampoos, it will slowly and gradually fade overtime with no rootline effect. This fading depends also on the quality of the hair, so it can change from one to another.

The glycolic gloss complex is defined by the glycolic acid and raw materials carefully selected inside the formula known to coat hair fiber and brings gloss to the hair. This glycolic gloss complex will bring shine and hair is 3x glossier than before.

CCG shades reno comes with a "cleaner" and more environmental friendly formulation to answer to L4TF challenges of the group.

CCG reno differs from CNG in terms of positioning, since CCG reno has a scientific positioning powered by Glycolic Gloss Complex, while CNG has more a "natural origin ingredients" communication. Number of shades and colour result also differs, as CCG reno is available with the most complete portfolio of 40 shades with fundamental, warm, cool, but also polychromatic shades.

Meanwhile, in anticipation of CNG discontinuation, we've run a series of head trials to see which CCG reno shades can replace CNG shades - 3 shades of CCG reno can totally replace CNG:

- CNG 323 can be replaced by CCG Reno 323
- CNG 623 can be replaced by CCG Reno 618

I love this product as it covers the greys and it isn't harsh on the scalp when being applied like alot of the other box colours.\nThe aroma isn't to harsh but still would recommend doing it in a well ventilated room.\nI also recommend always using the gloves supplied as not to stain your hands and wrap an old towel around your clothing as not to stain them.\nIf you do get colour on your skin use nail polish remover or moisturiser on a cotton ball.\nThe colour coverage is great and lasts nearly 30 washes.\nI recommend for the best colour result leaving it on for 15 to 20 minutes.\nFor a semi permanent this is a quiet good brand.\n

To be honest, this product is not one of my favourites. I found the brown that i used turned very red in sunlight and under bright lights which I did not like. I thought I chose a colour with different undertones. It was, however, very easy to apply and it did have lasting power for at least 3 weeks. I wash my hair about 2-3 times a week as I have thick, curly hair. The conditioner did make my hair feel nice and soft after the application of the hair colour as well. \nI wouldn't recommend this product, well the colour I chose, but that is really my preference. Some people may like the red undertones, \n

I have very dark brown, thick frizzy hair with some greys, and I have found that this product covers grey and lasts for 4-5 weeks on me before the greys show again. The colour has lasted well on the non-grey areas and does not appear to have faded. I wash my hair 4 times a week, so that makes it about 16-20 shampoos. I suspect that if not for the greys, I would not need to re-colour for a couple of months. It is easy to apply, does not have any nasty ammonia smell and hair feels less dry than when using L'Oreal Excellence permanent hair colour. I will probably stick with this in the long run and try to re-colour more frequently as it is less harsh compared to the permanent product.\n

L'Oreal Casting Crème Gloss is my favourite at home hair colour. It leaves my hair soft and super shiny with a gradual colour fade so regrowth is never a problem. The colour always comes out way darker than expected so I have learnt to leave it on for a little less than the specified time. The no ammonia is an added plus. The colour range is also great so if I feel like changing the brown tones slightly I can. The crème formula makes application easy with little mess and the price point is great also. Would highly recommend!\n

Bought this L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss during COVID times to cover my grey hair. My hair was dark brown and I figured this should work. I followed the instructions and used the dye. Instructions were very easy to follow. Washed the hair out the conditioner and then blow dried my hair. My hair look and felt amazing. It didn’t damage my hair, my hair was hydrated and my hair was super shiny. This effectively covered all my greys as well. Highly recommend this L’Oréal Paris Casting Crème Gloss hair colour

“Amber” shade turned my copper hair dark brown

I’m so sad. I bought the shade Amber from this range which promised “vibrant red tones” and touted a ginger girl on the front with bright orange natural looking ginger hair. For reference, my hair yesterday was a faded orange ginger, needing touch up from previous box dye. It was light, just a little faded. After using this “amber” dye I have dark brown hair with a tinge of purple-ish red. It is significantly darker than my natural hair colour and won’t budge even after several washes. I’ve never dyed darker than my natural in my life. This is hideous and completely completely different from what shown on the box. Maybe I’m the fool, but I’ve used many an orange box dye before and have never strayed too far from the same thing. My hair is extremely dark, and extremely brown. Foul product.

No, I do not recommend this product.

This semi permanent hair colour from L'Oreal was for years my favourite. I used golden blonde for making sun kissed highlights. For years no one knew I used hair dye to lighten my hair! \n\nThis dye will last differently on everyone. On me, it never fades, so I thought this is not "semi" permanent dye, but regular. And it was my first and best choice of boxed at home hair dyes. Why? Firstly: no nasty scent! While colouring or after colouring, nothing! It is ammonia free and has no toxic nasties known to be usual suspect allergens. Doesnot dry the hair out. Leaves hair with really beautiful shine and multidimensional tones. I have brown hair with copper undertones. And when using light golden blonde from L'Oreal Casting colours, it shifts my highlights couple of shades up to perfect sun kissed look! \n\nOverall I keep repurchasing as this colour is so gentle on my hair.

Castings by L’Oréal has been my go to home hair colouring for years. I have hair just past my shoulders and there is enough creme in one tube to colour it all. It’s easy to use and the the applicator makes dispensing a breeze. It leaves my hair smooth, shiny and feeling healthy and I love the range of reds available. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting a semi permanent solution they can do themselves.
