How To:
Sweat Proof Your Summer Makeup

Perspiration – while it keeps our bodies cool and can be great for our skin, it can also be a huge dampener (literally) on our beauty regime. Here are our best tips for keeping your hair, skin and make-up fresh in the summer heat.

1. Use long-wear formulas

Let’s face it - most of us are too busy to reapply makeup throughout the day. The key to avoiding summer makeup meltdowns is easy: use a good quality, long-wearing foundation like the Infallible Total Cover that’s formulated to stay put on those long, hot days.

2. Switch your mascara formula

Those prone to dreaded raccoon eyes should opt for a waterproof, smudge-proof mascara. Cue: Paradise Waterproof Mascara. Use an eyelash curler before applying your mascara for a wide-eyed look, and avoid piling it on as it can lead to clumpy, dry-looking lashes.

3. Invest in a primer

As the weather gets warmer and the sun comes out, our skin can become prone to redness and discolouration. To correct redness and create a smooth canvas for foundation, Infallible Anti-Redness Primer will give you a flawless complexion and preparation for makeup.

4. Moisturise your hair

Your locks need plenty of summertime TLC as heat makes your hair, particularly the tips, prone to dryness and frizz. Keep your tresses and scalp in tip-top shape by using a conditioner on the ends only. This puts the moisture where it’s needed and keeps your roots free from greasiness. If you’re short of time, apply Botanicals Lavender Conditioning Balm to your ends to repair thirsty strands on the go.

5. Battle breakouts

Keep blemishes at bay by cleansing twice daily to eliminate any impurities that can lead to a breakout. Regular exfoliation is also important to keeping your skin squeaky clean, but don’t rub too hard as it can damage your skin. Sugar Scrubs have just the right amount of grit to smooth while being kind to your skin. Get the low-down on exfoliating dos and don'ts here.

How To:
Find The Perfect Foundation Shade

Like great buildings, great makeup begins with a solid foundation. So what’s the best way to ensure you’re using the right shade?

The right foundation should match your skin’s undertone. ‘Undertone’ refers to the colours under the surface of your skin and can be warm, cool and neutral.

Warm– think yellow, peachy, and golden.

Cool– think red, pink, and bluish.

Neutral– think olive or a mix of those above.

How to determine your undertone

Take a good look at the veins on your wrist for an easy way to determine your undertone. If your veins look green, it’s likely you have warm undertones; if they’re blue/purple, you have cool undertones. If the veins are colourless or match your skin colour, you most likely have neutral undertones.

How does your skin react to the sun?

First things first, always wear sunscreen. Nevertheless, how your skin reacts to UV can also be a big indicator to your undertone. Those who burn easily likely have cool undertones; those who tan without burning may have warm undertones.

I’ve discovered my undertone, now what?

Once you’ve discovered your undertone, finding your true match foundation shade will get a whole lot easier! Here’s a helpful guide to what to look for when foundation hunting:

Warm shades are often named beige, golden, tan, caramel, and chestnut.

Cool shades are often labelled porcelain, rose, sable, cocoa.

Neutral shades are often referred to as ivory, buff, nude, and praline.

Colours to Have a Spring Fling With

The sun is getting warmer, the days are getting longer and our makeup shades are about to get a whole lot brighter. Whether you’re a lover of a statement lip or bright eyes, spring is the perfect season to experiment with fun and bold looks, so here’s four of the most wearable trend colours we’re tipping you’ll fall in love with this season.

Cherry Red.
We’re picking this to be THE colour of the season. We’ve seen this shade hit the runways throughout the year, on cheeks, lips and eyes and we are ready to take it on with draping, shiny cherry lips and dramatic cherry hued eyes.

Whether you peach up your lips, eyes or rock the draping effect; peach is going to be your go-to colour this season. It’s no surprise really, the shade pairs perfectly with a bronzed, highlighted glow which we all obsessed over this winter. Add gloss over your eyeshadow to hit a homerun with the trend.

Get ahead of the fruity cherry and peach trends with the limited edition Cherry My Cheri Eyeshadow Palette’s shades Flaming Cherry and Peach Power - launching in October.

Electric Blue.
Blue eyeshadow has made some serious moves into our makeup routine this year, and spring time will be no different, but this season it will be less is more. Think blue mascara, electric blue upside down liner (eyeshadow only under your lower lash line) or a thumbprint of blue at the outer corner of your eyes.

Bold Yellows.
Last summer was all about soft lemon hued yellows, this spring will see the colour go to bolder, brighter shades with marigold, mango yellows taking over our wardrobes and eyeshadow palettes. Think bright eyeliner or yellow highlight in your inner eyes for a subtle touch of the colour, or a colour block with a bold mango lid to take it to the extreme.
