L’Oréal Paris Laser X3 Pure Retinol Night Serum Review

If you’ve ever scoped out top skincare ingredients recommended by dermatologists, there’s a good chance you’ve stumbled upon retinol. It is a form of vitamin A that has been proven to help revitalise ageing skin and reduce fine lines and wrinkles. With such high claims, it’s no wonder retinol is one of the most researched molecules in skincare, as well as one of the most recommended ingredients by dermatologists. If you want to start adding a retinol skin care product to your routine, dermatologists recommend ones with pure retinol, such as the  L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser Pure Retinol Night Serum, 0.2% Pure Retinol, rather than derivatives and complexes. Read on for a breakdown on how this dermatologist-validated serum can transform your skin.

Why pure retinol?

We mentioned that dermatologists recommend pure retinol as opposed to derivatives and complexes, but you may be curious as to why. “Purity is important for retinol efficacy in skin, as pure retinol works faster. Always look for a high concentration of pure retinol versus retinol derivatives and complexes that take longer to work,” says Dr. Rocio Rivera, PhD, and head of scientific communications for L’Oréal Paris.

Why you need the L’Oréal Paris Pure Retinol Serum

This new dermatologist-validated serum is the latest addition to the Derm Intensives Collection, specifically formulated to tackle wrinkles, even deep ones. Only a couple of weeks after the launch, this potent anti-wrinkle serum has already begun to garner rave reviews.

Our serum is formulated with 0.2 percent pure retinol—a top dermatologist-recommended anti-ageing ingredient that’s proven to fight key signs of ageing such as wrinkles, even deep ones. “Pure retinol has no other additives and is actually the pure molecule itself,” says Rivera. The percentage of pure retinol in the serum is also noteworthy. “Typically, a dermatologist will recommend an efficient and safe starting point for pure retinol,” explains Rivera.

From day one, the retinol serum works to transform your skin. To start, your skin will feel moisturized, and its texture will feel more refined. Over time, as your skin continues to acclimate to daily retinol usage, wrinkles (even deep wrinkles) are visibly reduced, including forehead wrinkles. “In an independent clinical study, we saw that 100% of the women showed a reduction in wrinkles*, including deep wrinkles,” says Dr. Rivera.

Aside from its ability to tackle some major skin concerns, the serum is also non-comedogenic (so you don’t have to worry about it clogging your pores), allergy-tested, fragrance-free, silicone-free, and paraben-free.

How to use this pure retinol serum at night

Now that you know this retinol serum lives up to the hype, here’s how to start using it in your night time skincare regime.

Start by removing any build-up of impurities, dirt, and oils from your skin with a cleanser. Use the L’Oréal Paris Milky Cleansing Foam, which reveals clean, purified and smoother skin that is perfectly prepped skin for serum application. Lather a small amount between wet hands and gently massage onto your skin using a light circular motion. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm water and pat dry before moving on.

It’s time to grab your Pure Retinol Night Serum. When applying retinol, you’ll need to give your skin time to adjust. During the first week, apply two to three drops to clean and dry skin twice a week. The second week of use, apply the serum every other night. By week three, you can use the serum nightly if tolerated.

It’s a typical misconception that when using retinol products you can’t layer them with other ingredients, but you can! We recommend using the retinol serum in combination with the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Filler 1.5% Pure Hyaluronic Acid Serum for intense hydration and a plumping effect. The key when layering serums is to apply from the thinnest to the thickest formula. Start with hyaluronic acid, then apply the retinol serum. Rivera shares that you can also mix a few drops of both serums together in your hand if you prefer. Alternatively, you may prefer to use Pure Retinol Night Serum in the evening and Filler Serum in the morning. The choice is yours!

Finish your night skincare regime by applying a Night Cream. Smooth on the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 Night Cream, which is formulated with the powerful anti-ageing ingredient Pro-Xylane (concentrated to 3%) and Fragmented Hyaluronic Acid to deliver three key actions for in depth anti-ageing: wrinkle reduction, re-densifying the skin and firming contours.

How to complete your routine in the morning

To complete your routine, Rivera notes, “It’s also important to use broad-spectrum sunscreen with a minimum SPF of 15.” This is because retinol can increase your skin’s sun sensitivity. Try using the L’Oréal Paris Revitalift Laser X3 SPF15 Day Cream. The formula is enriched with concentrated Pro-XylaneTM renowned for its strong anti-wrinkle properties to stimulate and strengthen the support of the skin. Concentrated LHA, a powerful exfoliant that resurfaces the skin, evens out skin tone and improves texture. UVA/UVB filters in the SPF 15 broad spectrum sunscreen protect against the rays responsible for premature skin ageing and helps prevent the formation of age spots.
