Introducing our Woman of Worth: Poh Ling Yeow

2021 marks 50 years of L’Oréal Paris’ iconic tagline “Because I’m Worth It”, with these four simple words having become an iconic declaration of beauty and empowerment. In celebration, we are proud to announce our collaboration with MasterChef runner-up, artist and author Poh Ling Yeow who perfectly embodies the L’Oréal Paris brand ethos. As someone who has come to terms with her insecurities, Poh now finds beauty in authenticity and we are excited to share her story of self-discovery.

About Poh

Poh's food career began in the first season of MasterChef Australia in 2009. Shortly after she was offered her own cooking show, ‘Poh's Kitchen’ and subsequently her series ‘Poh & Co’. Both series provided a look into her hectic life as a cook, an artist and small business owner. As a seasoned talent in front of the camera, Poh has upcoming plans to co-host a new cooking series alongside another Australian cooking talent which will air in 2022.

Running in parallel with her career as a TV chef, is her venture into the world of food writing. Ever since she was a young girl, Poh always found a great sense of belonging, in a world where she otherwise felt alien, in the art of drawing, painting and writing. In 2010, her love for all things creative was fulfilled as Poh achieved a lifelong dream of publishing her first cookbook, ‘Poh's Kitchen, My Cooking Adventures’, which stayed in the top 10 Australian bestsellers list for six weeks. Despite her already overflowing schedule as a TV presenter and author, Poh still finds time to pursue a third career as a visual artist, painting professionally for over ten years with 14 solo exhibitions under her belt.

Poh on Self Worth

Whilst her career boasts an impressive list of accomplishments, for Poh, feeling steadily confident has only come recently. “It takes a lot of meandering into things that don’t make you feel right, to piece together the kinds of people and environments you need, in order to thrive. Then age and wisdom kicks in and you realise there’s less and less time for doubt, only time to do.” Finding something to be passionate about has been instrumental in her journey to self-discovery and along the way she has formed her own understanding of Beauty as being about emancipation, authenticity, having a sense of humour.

Since she was a teenager, “Because you’re worth it!” has resonated so deeply as a personal mantra and was always something she aspired to.  “I was also was a professional makeup artist for many years, so I have a very personal relationship with makeup, I really respect its ability it to transform how a woman feels”.
