Want a smooth and hydrated complexion? By adding a weekly clay mask to your skincare routine It helps to cleanse and add moisture without leaving an oily residue. Here's how it's done!

Step One: Cleanse Your Skin

Thoroughly cleanse skin to remove any build-up of dirt, oils or makeup. This allows the mask to penetrate deep into your pores and really work its magic.

Step Two: Apply An Even Layer

Use clean fingers or a brush to apply a thin, even layer. Less is more with a clay mask- a thick layer takes longer to dry and any product that doesn’t touch your skin is a waste!

Step Three: Sit Back & Relax

Sit back and relax for 10-15 minutes while your mask gets to work. Why not go all-out on your pamper session and use this time to apply a hair mask or paint your nails?

Step Four: Rinse & Pat Dry

Once your mask has set and dried, wet a clean face washer with lukewarm water and rub away the clay in small, circular motions. Repeat until all mask is removed. Next, reach for a clean towel and lightly pat your skin until dry.

Step Five: Moisturise

As tempting as it is to copy our best friend or work colleague’s skin care routine, the quest for your best skin should start with getting to know exactly what type of skin you have, what you should look for, and what you should avoid when developing a skincare routine to suit your individual needs and concerns.

Dry, sensitive skin?

This is one of the most common skin types, and is most often caused from not having enough water in the epidermis layer of your skin, however a daily routine can make a huge difference.

Cleanse: Use a creamy, soap and fragrance-free cleanser before going to bed and rinse with cool water.

Moisturise: Particularly important for dry skin, you want to moisturise at least two times a day. Look for ingredients such as coconut, avocado, sunflower, olive, almond or jasmine which are ideal for increasing moisture levels of the skin.

Exfoliate: Exfoliation helps get rid of any dead skin, allowing your skin to absorb your moisturisers more effectively. Aim to exfoliate every one to two days.

Oily skin?

Another extremely common skin type; oil prone skin can come from excessive sebum produced on the face which can create an oily shine and may lead to blocked pores.

Cleanse: The ideal oily skin cleanser needs to be a balance between gentle, hydrating, and effective. It’s recommended to cleanse every morning and night with key ingredients like koalin or lemon and rinse with lukewarm water, not hot or cold.

Moisturise: Don’t fall into the trap of thinking you don’t need any more hydration and skipping moisturiser. Instead use a lightweight moisturiser, particularly one with hyaluronic acid or retinol that aims to reduce pores and mattify your skin.

Serum: This might sound like an odd step to add more oil to oily skin, but doing so can actually help reduce excess sebum to create a balanced, radiant complexion.

Blemish-prone skin?

Unfortunately for a lot of us, blemish-prone skin doesn’t leave us when our teenage years are over. Although there are hundreds of acne treatments out there, the key to combating acne is a good and consistent skincare routine.

Cleanse: A morning and evening gentle cleanse is super important for blemish-prone skin, and double cleansing (cleansing twice each time) is even more effective. Search for ingredients such as salicylic acid (BHA), activated charcoal or sulfur.
