How To:
Find The Best Red Liquid Lipstick

A bold lip colour makes a powerful statement. Exuding beauty confidence and delivering a striking impact, it’s both classic and on-trend. The new L'Oréal Paris Rouge Signature Matte Colour Ink has dialled up the intensity but features an ultra-lightweight formula for a barely-there feel. Apply less but get more out of every swipe of this liquid lip colour.

Nude lips continue to be the colour du jour (yes, even the Rouge Signature neutral tones will make a bold statement), but for those who crave colour, stand out with vibrant hues of pink, red, purple and orange (and luckily, there are 12 shades in total to choose from).

The best lipstick shade for your skin tone

Often we’re drawn to certain colours, but when it comes to picking the perfect shade of lipstick, really it’s our skin tone that should guide our final decision. The secret to finding a shade that will have the greatest impact is to choose one with complementary undertones to the ones already in your skin. Take the classic red lipstick - here’s how to find the best red liquid lipstick shade for your skin tone:

BEST FOR: Fair skin

If you have pale skin, you'll know all too well that you have pink undertones in you skin colour. But surprisingly, pink (as well as red and blue) undertones in the skin indicate that you have cool undertones. In which case, cool-toned red lipsticks are the most flattering. A raspberry red will pop against your fair skin tone, while a cherry lipstick shade is a great choice if you want something a little darker.

BEST FOR: Olive skin

Olive skin tones and medium skin tones have either yellow or green undertones, which is why warm orange-based reds are a match made in heaven for you.

BEST FOR: Dark skin

This one’s a little more tricky, as some dark skin tones have warm undertones, while others have cool undertones. However, as a general rule, orange-based and blue-based shades of red will look best, while pink-based reds should be avoided.

HOT TIP: Try Our Virtual Try-On Tool

Now that you know how to choose red lipstick shades that are best suited to your skin tone, it’s time to try them on for the final test. Our virtual beauty app allows you to snap a photo of yourself and then choose one of our Rouge Signature colours to try on (as well as all our other makeup products) and see how it will actually look against your skin tone, eye colour, hair colour and defining features for the ultimate try-before-you-buy test run.

Three Expert Tips
For Power Statement Makeup

Just like a powersuit, the right slick of lipstick or eyeliner can give you the extra push you need to nail an interview and make a great first impression.

Channeling confidence gets a lot easier when you know you've got your game-face on. Enter the makeup tricks that’ll help you look powerful and poised with minimal fuss.

A statement lip
At once sensuous and stylish, a bold red lip can elevate a simple outfit into a fashion statement an instant. We love Color Riche Matte; because it’s infused with omega 3 and vitamin E. A gorgeous, nourished pout = one less thing to worry about on that long to-do list.

A bold brow
The fast route to a perfectly polished look? Neatly groomed brows. Use Brow Artist Micro Tattoo to quickly and easily fill in sparse spots and add depth. The microblade-inspired tip produces hair-like strokes for a natural effect. The 24-hour wear means no need for touch-ups.

A glowing complexion
Nothing says well-rested, fully functioning adult quite like radiant skin. If yours is looking less-than fresh, dot a little Bonjour Nudista Skin Tint onto your skin, blend and voila! Luminous glow to go.

Four Tips
For Drying Nail Polish Quickly

You paint your nails. You marvel at how well you did. You blow on them. You add a second coat. You blow on them again. You gracefully wave your hands back and forth. You check whether they’re dry. You smear all your hard work.

Sound familiar? We’ve all been there. So once you’ve perfected the at-home manicure, how can you keep your nail polish looking perfect?

Here are our four easy tips for how to dry nail polish fast.

1. Chill out To some degree, we all know that the cold helps harden nail polish, otherwise we wouldn’t wave our hands around trying to get cool air on them for faster drying. But there’s a really simple way to take that concept to the next level for even quicker drying: giving your nails a cold water bath. Not only is it super easy, it’s also highly effective.

Step 1 Fill a bowl with cold water and a few ice cubes. You don’t want it to be unbearably cold, but you do want it to be closer to Arctic than lukewarm. Make sure the bowl is big enough to submerge all ten fingertips at once.

Step 2 Paint your nails – with either one or two coats as normal – and let them air dry for about one minute. You want the paint to be set enough so it doesn’t move around when you dunk your nails. You’re just trying to reach that stage where the paint is tacky but secure.

Step 3 Submerge all ten nails in the cold water bath for two to three minutes. When you take them out, you should notice the water bead up on the top of the polish as it runs off your fingers. This is how you know you’re all set. Simply dry off and you’re good to go.

Bonus tip: If you’re having a hard time removing chipped polish, use the opposite method to ease the process. A short dunk in warm water will help to loosen up stubborn polish for a far easier nail polish removal session.

2. Lighten up If cold water submersion techniques aren’t for you, consider the art of layering. People often layer on thick coats of nail polish thinking that they’ll cover more ground, but if you’re looking to shorten your drying time, consider using thinner layers of paint. Choosing a highly pigmented colour, like L’Oréal Paris Color Riche Le Vernis a L’Huile, will help ensure that a thin layer doesn’t mean an uneven application. Simply wipe the applicator brush on the inside of the nail polish bottle to remove excess paint and apply in thin, even coats. Wait a couple of minutes, then apply a final coat if needed. It may feel counterintuitive and as though you’re extending your drying time, however it actually cuts time by half in the long run.

3. Get breezy If you’ve ever had a salon manicure, you’ll know that they often use fans at the end to help speed up the process. The at-home version? Your trusty hair dryer. The key to using a hair dryer to set nail polish is simply to use it on the cool setting. As you will have read above, heat works against you in keeping your freshly painted polish in place.

Simply paint your nails and then, holding the dryer about six inches away from your hand, apply the cool air for about a minute. Gently tap your nail to see if it’s still at all tacky and apply more air as needed. For multiple coats? Use this method between each to really add nail polish staying power.

4. Choose wisely We all have certain nail polish shades we’re attached to, but when looking for new colours, opt for quick drying formulas. Colours like the L’Oréal Paris Infallible Nail range offer gel-like finishes (with top coat included!).

All it takes is a two-coat application and a quick swipe of top coat for a hard, gel-like finish that lasts for up to 12 days without chips or cracks.
