HER CAREER
With a career spanning forty years and over fifty films to her name, Jane Fonda is an international icon whose artistic collaborations in cinema and theatre are distinguished by their richness and prestige. She has been a muse to the greatest directors such as George Cukor, Roger Vadim and even Sidney Pollack thanks to her natural elegance and unparalleled talent.
Jane's career is marked out by a string of masterpieces. Her performance on screen has attracted public admiration and industry recognition on two occasions when she received an Oscar for best actress for 'KLUTE' in 1971 and for 'Coming Home' in 1987. In 1984, her role as an irresolute and courageous mother in 'The Dollmaker', won her an Emmy Award. Equally, her performance in 'On Golden Pond' helped the film smash box office records in 1981.
Born in New York in 1937 from a family of renowned artists, Jane Fonda was destined for a shining career from the start. She quickly developed a taste for the stage thanks to her father, the famous Henry Fonda, and in 1949 joined Lee Strasberg's acting class at the Actors Studio. A primordial experience in the rise of any actress.
Jane first appeared on the big screen in 1960, in 'Tall Story', directed by Joshua Logan. She later worked in France, Italy, the US and then the USSR, on two documentaries: 'F.T.A.' in 1972 and 'Introduction to the Enemy', two years later.
In 1982, Jane turned her efforts to fitness videos, something she had used personally in her 60s. They were an immediate hit. With 17m copies sold, Jane Fonda's fitness video remains the best selling workout tape of all time.
Jane described her rich life in her autobiography 'My Life So Far,' published in France in 2005, where she writes about her personal and professional experiences. Married successively to Roger Vadim, Tom Hayden and Ted Turner, she is the mother of four children and currently lives in Atlanta.
