How is men's skin different?
The differences between men and women's skin are largely due to hormonal influences and are well known:
-Men's skin is thicker (on average 22% thicker on the face)* and contains a greater level of collagen**,
- It is greasier, so can be more susceptible to imperfections,
- It ages later but more noticeably,
- It can become irritated and weakened by shaving,
- It transpires more.
From observing the different clinical characteristics of male skin (dilated pores, shine, signs of fatigue around the eye contour, forehead wrinkles, crows feet, furrows between the nose and cheeks, sagging at the base of the face), the L'Oréal Paris laboratories have conducted clinical studies to delve even deeper into the understanding of male skin and its needs at each age.

The evolution of men's skin.
The L’Oréal Laboratories have carried out an unprecedented investigation in order to deepen their understanding of men's skin and to ascertain its precise needs at every age.
L’Oréal Paris studied a panel of 200 men, aged between 18 to 68 years. The L’Oreal Laboratories studied the evolution of the five clinical signs typical of male ageing.
1. Crow's feet
2.Forehead wrinkles
3. Laughter lines
4. Sagging of the lower face
5. Under-eye bags
A mathematical model mapping the biological evolution of male ageing was then applied. The L’Oréal Laboratories succeeded in objectively understanding male ageing for the first time, and measuring some of its variables. These results show that mens skin and consequently their skin needs change over time. L’Oréal Paris Men Expert has been specifically designed to provide a complete solution.
Results of the study
Forehead wrinkles are an early sign of ageing for men. Their evolution slows towards 50-55 years.
The depth of crows' feet and shadows under the eyes evolve slowly until around the age of 50 after which they appear more quickly.
Bottom of face sagging does not appear until around 40 years after which it can occur rapidly.
Furrows between the nose and cheeks are a very representative sign of male age and develop progressively.
The L'Oréal Paris Men Expert range has been specifically designed for men's skin, whatever his age and lifestyle.
